Let Your Little Light Shine

Matthew 5:14-16 – “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

The “little folks” sang one of my favorite children’s songs yesterday – “This little light of mine.” Such great spiritual truths in a song sang from such little mouths.

As children of the King, we should all have the Light shining out from us. Others should be able to see that Light from any distance.

The first verse of that song says, “Hide it under a bushel? No! I’m gonna let it shine!” We sometimes hide our Light. We are afraid that others may make fun of us because we choose to let It shine. But we shouldn’t let that hold us back. Our Light is what makes us who we are. It is our driving force! Why hide it?

The next verse says, “Won’t let Satan blow it out! I’m gonna let it shine!” The devil is going to do whatever he can to diminish the brightness of our Light. He’s going to huff and puff and do whatever he can to make our Light seem dim. We have to attend to that Light. Nothing can blow it out, but if we let him, he can make seem like the flame is  leaning and becoming a glimmer. It’s our choices that cause the Light to seem to waiver. The Light doesn’t change, but our perception of the Light changes. If the devil can turn our perception far enough away to think that the Light is gone, he has won. We cannot let him think he has won.

The last verse is – “Let it shine till Jesus comes! I’m gonna let it shine!” The time is coming quickly. We must be diligent and active to shine our Light.

So let me encourage you this week to let your Light shine! Don’t hide it away. Don’t let the devil try and blow it out. Let it shine!
