The Three Occupations – Part 1

2 Timothy 2:4 – “No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs – he wants to please his commanding officer.”

In 2 Timothy, there are 3 examples of occupations and how they relate to the service of Christ. I want to look at the first one today.

A soldier. There are several times throughout the Scripture where followers of Christ are called soldiers. We are His soldiers – called to battle the forces of the devil and the darkness. We are the light in a darkened world.

Here in 2 Timothy, we are reminded that a soldier desires to serve his commanding officer. Our commanding officer is Jesus. It should be our desire to serve Him.

A soldier does not desire to get involved in civilian affairs. In relation to our service to Christ, we are not to have the desire to get involved in the world. Oh, how difficult that is. We want to be part of the world. But we have to remain focused. Focused on the One who gave His life for ours.

So today, princess, try to remember, as you go through your royal day, that you are also a soldier for Christ. Be focused. Be prepared. Be ready to serve.
