The shark attack

1 Peter 5:8 – “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

My son was watching old shark week episodes the other day. Let me just say for the record, some of those people are CRAZY! Anyway, this guy was standing in the water with about 8-10 great white sharks swimming around him. He was shocked when one came up and bit him on the leg (hello?). The shark didn’t just nibble and swim away. The shark grabbed him by the leg and planned to take him out to deeper water to finish him off.

Ok, my point with all that gore is this: the devil is swimming around out there looking for the opportunity to snatch us by the leg and drag us out to sea to finish us off – if we are foolish enough to stand in the water and think we will not get bitten. God gave us a brain and the ability to think and reason for a purpose. He also gave us the Holy Spirit to guide us where we need to go. This Holy Spirit is the One saying – “don’t think that the devil won’t bite you. Stand in that water and bad things will happen.”

But we just want to put our toe in. It feels nice, so we wade in a little deeper and a little deeper until we are waist deep and ready for a shark attack. Use your brain and listen to Him. Let Him guide you in all things – especially when the water looks so tempting.
