Gentle Reminders

Romans 15:4 – “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

Have you ever read something a hundred times in the past and then one day you read it again and Boom! it jumps off the page at you?

That’s what happened to me this morning. This verse isn’t anything earth shattering or über spiritual. It is just one of those gentle reminders God is famous for.

The Word. Sometimes we take it for granted. Sometimes we squabble over which version is the one to read. Sometimes we have it set up on display for whatever reason.

Dear sister, we MUST remember that THIS IS THE WORD OF GOD!!! How in the world do we expect to get any closer to Him if we don’t communicate with Him in prayer AND reading? Prayer is awesome, amazing! But it is us talking to Him. Yes, we need to be still and listen for Him, I agree. That being said, we also need to plug into the Word where we can really hear Him speak.

The Word was given to teach us, encourage us and provide endurance and hope for us. Everything we need to make it through every trial and joyful moment in our life is right here. Want to know about marriage? The Bible. How to raise children? The Bible. Financial questions? The Bible. Problems at work? The Bible. Feeling depressed? The Bible. Go ahead. Ask a question. Ponder a deep spiritual issue. The answer will ALWAYS be in the Bible. You will have to seek it out. But Jesus promised “seek and you will find”(Matthew 7:7). It may take you a while. You may have to have help in finding it. But the answer is always there.

So today, princess, I urge you to get into the Word. If you are new to this, start slow. Pick a book and read through it at your pace. Ask God to clear your mind and open His Word to your heart. It is a beautiful thing.
