The Gift

Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Well, it is last minute shopping day – Christmas Eve. Hopefully, you are done shopping. My theory is – if you don’t have it by now, your up a creek without a paddle!
However, the gift of salvation is never late and always appropriate.
During this Christmas season, please don’t forget the most important gift of all, princess. Jesus. His gift of eternal life gives us cause for celebrating every day. And who doesn’t like to celebrate?

It’s not the end

Matthew 24:36 – “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”
Well, as of 5:53 in the morning EST, the world has not yet ended. The day is just getting started.
This whole Mayan calendar thing has gotten some people really stirred up. Makes me laugh, actually. Here they are believing in a man made calendar by some loin cloth wearing Indians when they really should be listening to the creator of those Indians – God.
Jesus said here in Matthew that no one knows when the day will be. The Bible is full of prophecies of what will happen between now and then, all we have to do is look.
It is our job, princess, to be ready – Matthew 24:44 – “So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” We are not to be storing up treasures on this earth but rather in Heaven. We have to get the Good News about Jesus out to everyone. And today is the perfect day to show others that God is in control of each and every day He gives us. Regardless of the Mayan calendar.

Luke 6:38 – “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Blessings. As a child of the King, we know we have them in our life. But when was the last time you actually stopped to think about them and try to count them? This side of never, if I was to guess – because I am just as guilty.
We get up every morning and take a hot shower, eat breakfast and drive in our cars or walk to where we want to go. Have you ever stopped to consider the people who don’t have hot showers, food to eat or the ability to get around?
The blessings that we experience are innumerable. Our Heavenly Father has truly blessed us just as He said He would here in Luke.
So today, princess, take a few minutes out of your crazy schedule and “count your blessings – name them one by one. Count your many blessings see what God has done.” (From the song – Count your blessings)

Oh, the humanity….

John 1:14 – “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Yesterday on the way to school, my kids and I were talking about the humanity of Jesus. We were talking about what it might have been like for Jesus’s brothers and sisters.
Can you imagine? Mary must have had times when she would think to herself, “Now, Jesus never did that.” Remember, He was sinless and never had a bad thought – that was one my daughter could hardly wrap her brain around!
But at the same time, we have to remember that Jesus went through all the same temptations that we do. Ecclesiastes 1:9 – “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” That is a comfort, princess. Jesus had the same sufferings that we do today.
So take heart, dear princess. Jesus has been there and done that and made it through.
Take a moment and smile to think about Mary having to calm a rough housing time of the boys by saying, “Hey! Get off of Jesus! He is the King of kings!”

My little gift

James 1:17 – “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
Today is my son’s birthday. He is 11 today. When I look back at the last 11 years, I’m like every parent who has come before me – “Where did the time go?”
When I look at him, I see the essence of this verse in James – my good and perfect gift. Do I think my child is perfect and always good? Are you crazy? I’m deluded but not to that point!
My son has taught me so much about life. He has taught me how to love, how to fix problems with a hug, how to imagine life a little more fun and that just scratches the surface.
One thing I know for sure – he is a gift from God, as are all children. God gave us these pure little people to remind us that things don’t have to be so complicated. Sometimes all you need to make the day perfect is a hot wheels car.
So today, princess, hug your gifts a little tighter and remember why god gave then to you.

This is the day….

Psalm 118:24 – “This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Such a simple Psalm with such great power.
We see so much darkness in this world. People killing innocent people. People betraying the freedoms that give them the right to speak out. People admitting to lying as the top “bad habit” that they practice.
You have to make a choice each day, princess, before you even get out of bed. Are you going to choose to have a good day or are you going to let someone else make that choice for you?
God has given you today. Rejoice! Find little things and little ways to be happy today. Don’t let the darkness overtake you. Stand firm and live in the Light!

Matthew 4:19 – “Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Some people love to go fishing. I am not one of those people, but I do love to eat them.
Jesus was talking here of a different type of fishing. This type is getting the love of Christ into the world so that they may come to know Christ. You have to use the right bait. You can’t live like the devil all week and expect someone to come to church with you on Sunday. People watch you. They hear you. They can observe who you really are by how you live your life when you think no one is watching.
So be careful, princess. Guard your words and actions with the armor of God.
I heard a speaker say one time – God has said to us “You catch them, I’ll clean them.”
